A new study from the University of Melbourne aims to make one of the world’s most liveable cities even more liveable.

A project that has sought to help urban planners and decision makers to shape where and how people work and live in Melbourne was launched at the city’s self-titled University.

The study could inform business owners, employers and potential employees of the best locations and commuter paths to get the most from the working day. It will also help future city planners better decide the way the metropolis should be laid out.

“The project makes it easier for experts from a range of backgrounds search new and existing data on planning initiatives more quickly and easily than ever before,” said Professor Abbas Rajabifard, Director of the project and Head of the Department of Infrastructure Engineering.

The University of Melbourne says its new initiative opens up research possibilities by allowing to access more than 100 datasets, now established as the Victorian Data Hub and available via the Australian Urban Research Infrastructure Network (AURIN) portal.

The AURIN portal is in its final testing phase but is already a powerful tool for planners, available here.
