The Federal Government has hailed the passage of legislation through Parliament that locks in equal pay increases for 150,000 social and community services (SACS) workers.

The legislation will establish the Social and Community Services Pay Equity Special Account, confirming the Federal Government’s $2.8 billion contribution to pay rises across the SACS sector.

The legislation comes after a Fair Work Australia (FWA) ruling granted SACS workers pay increases in nine installments totaling between 23 and 45 per cent.

Under the agreement the first eligible workers will receive their first installment in December, with organisations who hire eligible workers set to receive letters of offer for supplementation in November.
