Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of People & Infrastructure, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading the Health, Safety and Wellbeing function and driving outcomes in accordance with organisational goals, and within budget.
  • Leading the management and improvement of RSPCA Victoria’s WHS&W Management System, ensuring that the organisation is compliant with all relevant legislative requirements.
  • Identifying, implementing and monitoring strategies to improve the safety and wellbeing of our people across the organisation and build a positive health and safety culture at RSPCA Victoria.
  • Providing operational support to managers, employees and volunteers on hazard identification and management, incident reporting, investigations, and implementation and monitoring of corrective actions.
  • Analysing and reporting on safety and wellbeing related data (lead and lag indicators) to identify trends and inform strategies and corrective actions that improves the safety and wellbeing of our people.
  • Providing operational support to managers, employees and volunteers on hazard identification and management, incident reporting, investigations, and implementation and monitoring of corrective actions.
  • Managing the relationship with WorkSafe Victoria and our workers compensation insurer, including overseeing the management of workers compensation claims to ensure the achievement of safe and sustainable return to work outcomes.

What we are looking for from you

  • Previous experience identifying and implementing strategies that make a genuine difference to the safety and wellbeing of people within organisations is essential.
  • Previous experience fostering a safety culture and influencing the practices of others to ensure the safety is always front of mind.
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of Workplace Health, Safety and Wellbeing and workers compensation related legislation, regulations and practices.
  • Previous experience in analysing and reporting on safety and wellbeing related data (lead and lag indicators) to identify trends and inform strategies and corrective actions for an organisation
  • Demonstrated experience building strong relationships with stakeholders across organisations and working with them to create positive and sustainable change.

Highly regarded

  • Certificate IV in Health and Safety and a Return-to-Work Certification

Recruitment Requirements

  • Current and valid COVID-19 vaccination (primary course) records, unless a medical exemption applies
  • This position requires regular travel throughout metropolitan and regional Victoria, therefore requiring a valid Victorian driver’s license.
