Pirate Life Brewing was founded in 2014 on a five-day journey across the Nullarbor Plain. We landed in Adelaide, established a brewery and spent the next seven years building a brand.  In that time, we’ve gone from three founders to a crew of over one hundred, built three venues across Australia, and cemented ourselves as one of the country’s most recognisable craft breweries and brands. 

Our ongoing love for people and beer helped get us this far, with the majority of our leadership team having grown their careers within the business.

As our Head of People, you will play a crucial role in helping us to continue to build a unique and supportive culture and to maintain a positive workplace and stay true to our commitment to all employees to help them grow as individuals. 

You will drive and assist our leaders to equip their people with the knowledge, skills, and inspiration they need to embody our ‘high quality’ ethos and feel passionate about the work they do.  

You will consider the direction of the business and team dynamics to make continuous improvements and provide recommendations on how we can improve.  

Reporting to the General Manager, the successful applicant will:

  • Lead the development of our people strategy
  • Champion the development of our target culture
  • Partner with leaders in the business to support their ability to grow and lead their people
  • Manage the recruitment and onboarding processes to ensure every new team member is a strong cultural fit with the drive to succeed
  • Look after the wellbeing of our crew
  • Develop and facilitate training & education across the business to grow our people

What you’ll need to help us succeed:

  • Strong experience and a passion in developing people and building a strong and distinctive culture
  • Qualifications in Organisational psychology or Human Resource Management
  • Strong experience in a HR Business Partnering role
  • A deep dissatisfaction with traditional HR practices and a drive and determination to find a unique and better way to develop capability and bring out the best in our workforce and the performance of our business
  • A talent for coaching and Influencing others
