Principal Ergonomist

WorkSafe is relocating its headquarters to Geelong by mid-2018. Prior to this date, this role will be based at 222 Exhibition Street, Melbourne. This position will be a 3 year fixed term opportunity.

About the role

Reporting into the Director, Specialist Services, you will be responsible for leading the Ergonomics & Human Factors team providing both people & technical leadership as well as facilitating the maintenance of corporate knowledge in ergonomics. In addition, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Coach, mentor and develop team members to achieve divisional objectives
  • Identify current and emerging risks for business planning, future programs, as well as training and development
  • Provide authoritative analysis, specialist knowledge and expertise in human factors to inform decision making of others
  • Represent WorkSafe at national, state and industry committees, forums and reference groups
  • Carry out Quality Assurance activities, Identify opportunities and make recommendations for improvements

Skills & experience

  • Qualified in Human Factors / Ergonomics and/or Health Sciences / Psychology
  • Proven experience in managing and leading a team of technical experts
  • Demonstrated ability to train, develop and motivate employees in a team environment
  • Strong knowledge of ergonomics and its application to systems, processes and procedures to reduce injury and illness
  • Project management understanding and application - from planning through to evaluation
  • Knowledge and expertise in the governing systems and regulations and ability to apply research and analysis techniques
