THE COMPANY

The Port of Townsville Limited (‘the Port’) owns and manages the Ports of Townsville and Lucinda in North Queensland which are vital trade gateways for Northern Australia, handling around $10 billion worth of cargo each year.  The Port is the country’s largest sugar, molasses, zinc, lead, copper and fertiliser port, and the largest container, general cargo and automotive port in Northern Australia.

This is a unique time to join the Port, with Stage 2 of the Port expansion now underway. The $232 million Channel Upgrade project is the Port’s largest infrastructure investment to date. The project involves widening of the Platypus and Sea channels to allow access for larger commercial, cruise and defence ships.

THE POSITION AND YOU

The People and Culture Project Officer will assist the People and Culture team with progressing, enhancing, and developing projects and initiatives including the Port’s learning & development programs, entry pathway program, diversity and inclusion strategy and reward and recognition programs.

You will work collaboratively with the P&C team and organisational leaders to ensure that our new employees experience a professional and well-planned induction with the ability to continue to develop within their role at the Port.  This position will also be responsible developing, coordinating and delivering training for the Port and for administering the Port’s Learning Management System.

To be successful in the role, you will require:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Human Resources, or relevant discipline (Desirable).
  • Experience working in a learning and development/organisational development field, including administering an online Learning Management System (LMS) and e-learning content creation tools.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training programs.
  • Ability to project manage and work across multiple projects and initiatives at once.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships across all levels of the business as well as external bodies.
  • Strong advocacy and influential skills to support the delivery of outcomes.
  • High standard of oral and written communication skills that are clear, concise, and professional.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and discretion when handling confidential information.
  • Ability to research, review and digest technical or legislative information quickly.
