About the opportunity 

This position has been designated for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people only under the provisions of section 126 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW)

We are in a period of exciting and significant investment in our Faculty of Medicine and Health and in order to deliver on the University’s ambitious strategic plan, we are looking for an outstanding Project Manager to join a growing team of  Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health scholars in the University of Sydney based at Camperdown Campus. Under the direction of Associate Professor John Gilroy, the project manager will drive a large three-year Australian Research Council funded Aboriginal workforce project that aims to uncover and explore the factors that influence the retention of frontline Aboriginal workers in the health, ageing, and disability workforce in NSW.

You will manage and oversee project organisation such as developing the project organisation structure, the project charter, workforce plans and project processes and resources required to support implementation.

You will also build and implement overall project plans providing effective management of activities and deliverables to ensure milestones and deliverables are realised. You will also develop and embed project governance and reporting to ensure progress is monitored and risks mitigated.

In addition to the above, you will manage stakeholders and communications, ensure effective collaboration and team work with other project teams and stakeholders across the University. There will also be opportunities to grow and develop into Aboriginal health research by drafting funding proposals for further research projects and programs.

About you

  • must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander; able to provide evidence
  • tertiary qualification or extensive project management experience preferably in human resources, tertiary education, Aboriginal community-controlled organisations, or community and/or health services, in a complex multi-faceted environment
  • sound understanding and consistent application of project management competencies including scope, time, cost, quality, HR, communications, cost, risk, procurement and integration
  • experience managing a diverse group of key internal/external stakeholders on large or complex projects
  • previous financial management experience and literacy, experience managing budgets and controlling income and expenditure for a project
  • current NSW driver’s licence and willingness to travel

The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills with excellent attention to detail, organisational and negotiation skills. The incumbent will also be able to take an initiative and exercise sound judgement in resolving matters. They will have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
