Job Description

As Payroll Officer you are responsible for preparing and processing the fortnightly payroll for approximately 1050 employees, ensuring that Council meets its obligations in relation to Superannuation contributions, Taxation, Accident Compensation. You will also provide quality solutions to employee service needs, with the application of accurate advice and problem solving when responding to enquiries and interpret and apply Council's Enterprise Agreement, relevant Awards, Statutory requirements and Council policies and procedures with ongoing support from the Payroll Coordinator. Within this customer focused payroll position you will provide effective and responsive service to internal and external customers in order to facilitate positive customer relations.

Using your investigative skills and can do nature you will also contribute to the organisation’s business improvement program by identifying and implementing customer service and payroll administration improvement initiatives

Some key day to day tasks include:

  • Answering the payroll inbox email queries in a timely & accurate manner 
  • Ensure all data is entered and ready for running the two fortnightly pay runs
  • Assisting the Payroll Coordinator in updating the Aurion system and being involved in key projects 
  • Ensure Tax, Super and Deductions are paid in accordance with the legislative guidelines
  • Work with key stakeholders on improvements to processing of payroll related forms

This is a permanent full time position with an annual salary range of $77,454 - $88,808 per annum + 10.5 % superannuation and a monthly accrued day off.

This is a hybrid role which means you can work both from home and within the office. When on site you are based within our bright, modern and sustainable 311 Glenferrie Road office on the corner of High Street and Glenferrie Road in Malvern where boutique stores, cafes and health clubs are in abundance. From the office you can easily walk to Malvern Gardens, High Street Armadale or Glenferrie Road. Malvern and Armadale Train Station are a short walk away and tram stops are out the front of the building.

Desired Skills and Experience

To succeed in this position you will need:

  • Excellent time management, organisational and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with personal and sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • High level computer skills with the ability to learn and use emerging software applications with previous experience using similar payroll and accounting systems.
  • Ability and desire to provide support and assistance to team members and positively contribute to the team culture 
  • High level customer service experience and well developed interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to provide effective communication at all levels
  • Flexibility in approach to work practices, with the ability to adapt and adopt change in a dynamic and demanding environment
  • Relevant qualification and/or substantial relevant experience working as a Payroll Officer or similar
