What you'll be doing

To provide NSLHD Managers and workers with a comprehensive WHS Service that includes: 

  • Development of WHS related policies, systems, procedures, forms and training for use across NSLHD.
  • Facilitation and support of managers in the implementation of WHS systems into wards/departments.
  • Provision of advice and recommendations of WHS issues.
  • Development and support of development of WHS related training material and delivery of WHS training and competency assessment to managers.
  • Coordination of responses to WorkCover on related issues and management of issues involving WorkCover.
  • Support of hospital/ service management in preparation for audits on WHS and conducting MoH WHS audits.
  • To assist when required with the oversight and management of the Injury Management team, the Employee Assistance team and other teams within the Health Safety & Wellbeing Unit.

Employees must abide by the NSW Health Code of Conduct. Criminal record checks will be undertaken on successful applicants and applicants for positions designated as Category A will be required to obtain required vaccinations prior to commencing employment. 

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
  1. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  2. Qualifications in WHS and a working knowledge of NSW WHS legislation and regulations and risk management principles.
  3. Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing WHS policies and programs.
  4. Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of Safety Culture principals and programs.
  5. Demonstrated leadership and change management skills in a complex organisation.
  6. Demonstrated high level negotiation, mediation skills and communication skills both written and verbal.
  7. Ability to direct, coordinate and manage multidisciplinary team initiatives and projects in a high volume work area while managing competing priorities.
  8. Ability to travel in a timely manner to all hospital sites of NSLHD.
