About the position

The workplace relations environment at Metro is set in a context of 6,500 employees, 3 Enterprise Agreements, highly active unions, international ownership, global operations, and a ‘franchise’ arrangement with the Victorian State Government.

The Workplace Relations Manager partners with the Head of Workplace Relations and the Workplace Relations team, the Executive/Senior Leadership Teams and operational leaders to provide technical advice and support in the development and delivery of workplace relations strategies and solutions to support the achievement of Metro’s strategic, operational and safety objectives. This role will play a key role in supporting critical portfolios of work for Metro in supporting Victoria’s ‘Big Build’ Infrastructure Program to help deliver some of Melbourne’s most iconic projects.

You will be a key strategic partner, ensuring that all workplace relations issues are addressed in an expedient and objective manner to deliver on operational and change program requirements and positively manage Metro’s legal, industrial and reputational risks.  You will partner with operational leaders and alliance partners to resolve complex and highly sensitive workplace issues and provide high quality, practical employment law advice on a range of operational matters.

About you

You will:

  • Have a tertiary qualification in Employee Relations, Industrial Relations, HR, Law or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex workplace relations cases and disputes in complex organisations
  • Have outstanding stakeholder management and interpersonal skills with proven ability to build effective relationships, work collaboratively with business leaders and multiple internal and external stakeholders at all levels. 
  • Have high level of business acumen with demonstrated exceptional negotiation, project management and planning skills, influencing, advocacy and facilitation skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.
