Occupational Health & Safety Advisor

Are you a passionate safety professional looking to progress your career with an iconic company? We currently have a vacancy for an experienced OHS Advisor at our Virginia factory.

Your ability to empower and coach our 38 onsite Health and Safety Representatives will be a key factor in continuing to drive safety improvement through-out the site.  In addition to your strong people skills, your specialist OHS advice and knowledge will help support our culture of safe work practice and legislative compliance.

Responsibilities include

  • Identifying, assessing and resolving key OHS issues at the site and developing short- and long-term interventions
  • Coordinate various hazard identification and mitigation activities and data management systems (such as Hazard / Incident Reporting & Management, Chemical Management, Contractor Management, Risk Assessments, Inspections & Audits)
  • Conduct risk assessments in consultation with stakeholders
  • Ongoing development, review and maintenance of site OHS & Injury Prevention management systems, including all policies, procedures & forms.
  • Participate in the development of strategic safety plans and actions to support delivery plans
  • Support the implementation of OHS action plans in order to improve site reduction of injuries
  • Coordinate safety committee activities and mentor and coach our 38 onsite Health and Safety Representatives
  • Development & delivery OHS training packages to operations & technical personnel

What ingredients do you need to be successful?

  • 2 - 4 years’ experience within a safety role
  • Relevant OHS qualification
  • Experience within FMCG industry is desired but not essential
  • Good understanding of OHS Management systems is essential, ideally working with a self-insured organisation
  • Management Systems Auditor certification preferred but not essential
  • Injury Management / Rehabilitation Coordination experience is desired but not essential
  • An individual who has a Continuous Improvement mindset and is not afraid to challenge the norm
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels of the business
  • Ability to interpret legislation, codes of practice and corporate standards and apply requirements to real life shop floor situations
  • Intermediate MS Word &MS Excel skills
