Who are we?

The Kmart Group is comprised of Kmart and Target, Catch, and the Kmart Group Asia sourcing business. It was formed as the Department Stores Division in February 2016 and re-branded to the Kmart Group in January 2019. The division operates 520 stores across Australia and New Zealand and employs more than 44,000 team members.

What will you do?

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Talent and Engagement Manager to drive and develop Kmart Group's Talent and Engagement agenda. This role will partner with People & Capability and senior leaders across the Kmart Group to design, develop and implement highly effective and measurable talent and engagement solutions that support out People Plan and align to our strategy and values. You will also engage and manage cross-functional stakeholder groups to execute key Talent & Engagement programs and projects, as well as provide ongoing support and expert advice.

Based between both the Target State Support Office in Williams Landing (West Melbourne) and Kmart’s National Office in Mulgrave, this role reports to the Head of Talent & Engagement and will form a critical position within the Kmart Group Talent & Engagement team.  You will utilise your extensive experience and grasp the opportunity to support and enhance the way Kmart Group effectively manages talent, performance culture and engagement.  You will be a passionate OD/Talent professional who loves to stay current with the latest industry trends and embraces all innovation in this space.

Coupled with strong strategic thinking, you excel at project management and prioritisation and can manage high volumes of work with overlapping deadlines whilst maintaining exceptional attention to detail. Data is your friend and you use it to influence, build credibility and innovate. This is a busy hands-on role for someone who’s not afraid to have a go and try something new.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and contributing to organisation-wide talent and engagement projects and processes such as employee engagement/experience surveys, the performance review and development cycle, talent and succession planning, culture initiatives and reward and recognition programs.
  • Developing recommendations to elevate and improve current as well as implement new projects or initiatives based on business needs.
  • Playing a key role in the implementation of an online talent and performance system.
  • Implementing methods to measure success and track progress and maintain a focus on continuous improvement

What are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will preferably have a tertiary qualification (eg. Human Resources, Psychology) with accreditation in 360 tools, behavioural/preference tools and/or psychometric assessments not essential but highly regarded. It is critical to have relevant depth and breadth of experience in a similar role (HR, OD or similar field) including experience in leading the design and delivery of large-scale talent, performance and engagement initiatives in a complex business. Extensive experience in project or program management in addition to a global mindset is a criteria to be successful in this dynamic role.

Strategic thinking is essential as is proven experience in coaching, challenging and educating business leaders in how they drive culture, talent and engagement across the business, the ability to quickly build rapport and effectively communicate and engage  with internal and external stakeholders, along with a ‘can do’ attitude and customer first mentality. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to produce high-quality reports which contain quantitative and qualitative data analysis, along with relevant, impactful and realistic recommendations is also required to successfully perform this role.
