Safety Systems Advisor

The Role

The Safety Systems Advisor will be the subject matter expert on policies, processes and systems relating to work health and safety at Kmart.  You will be responsible for updating and managing the WHS Management System, including compliance with legislation and self-insurance requirements, while ensuring the system is both user-friendly and understood by the business.

  • Maintaining and controlling WHS Management System documents, and associated change management implementation, to ensure currency of information and business knowledge of processes.
  • Identifying improvements to the WHS Management System, to ensure it provides insight to drive risk reduction, and work with the relevant internal stakeholders to implement improvements.
  • Responsibility for the internal and external audit schedule, in consultation with relevant stakeholders, and support provision of Kmart evidence for audits.
  • Coordination and management of the risk assessment register and identification of site-based hazards, preparing risk assessments as requested.

Key Responsibilities

Risk and quality

  • Prepare site safety materials and inspection checklists
  • Conduct risk assessments as requested
  • Document risk assessments and maintain the risk register
  • Maintain the Corrective Actions register

Compliance

  • Create and manage all site-based safety system materials and compliance and document registers
  • Maintain health and safety documents online (KIT)
  • Ensure ongoing adherence to the WHSMS, NAT3, AEP (Accredited Employer Program NZ) and WHS legislation

Managing relationships

  • Maintain formal and informal networks to exchange ideas
  • Seek to understand business changes and participate in projects
  • Respond to requests for assistance
  • Maintain relationships with internal stakeholders

Audits

  • Ensure stakeholders are aware of upcoming audits
  • Provide project management and system support

About You

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience within a multisite health, safety or regulatory role
  • Experience within self-insured or safety certified environment, including involvement in certification processes
  • Experience in project coordination or regulatory audit

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities/Technology Used:

  • Sound knowledge of AS4801, ISO31000 and legislative provisions around duty of care and reasonably practicable
  • Advanced computer knowledge (Word – formatting and document creation. Excel – basic formulas, sorting, filtering and use of pivot tables. Online reporting systems – report generation, Devices – iOS familiarity)
  • Strong interpersonal communication and influencing skills
  • High self-awareness including planning and time management

Preferred Formal Education/Qualifications:

  • Graduate Certificate in Workplace Health or Safety
  • Diploma Auditing

Mandatory Formal Education/Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a health or safety related discipline
