The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is seeking a highly motivated, outcome driven senior executive to fill the newly created position of Assistant Director-General Learning and Development, based in Canberra ACT.

This position will work with the Director-General and Executive on an exciting project to change the way we on-board and train candidates and staff. The position will report directly to the First Assistant Director-General (FADG) Corporate, and will also be responsible for reforming and managing ASD’s Learning and Development Branch.   The successful applicant will have a demonstrated ability to deliver learning and development outcomes and major training programs that will support ASD’s mission objectives.

ASD’s Learning and Development Branch designs and delivers bespoke training to support ASD’s mission and facilitates access to external development opportunities for ASD staff.  The Branch is currently redeveloping and redesigning induction and introductory training to align with ASD’s new position as a statutory authority.  It will also take on more responsibilities including managing new employees through the recruitment pipeline and entry-level programs.

We are looking for someone who is innovative and can bring modern approaches to training and career management, and reduce the burden on our mission areas. In a competitive market, we need to create a training system that can grow the specialist skills we need to meet evolving challenges – one that supports strategic priorities, cultural transformation and continuous improvement.

The role is responsible for implementing an enterprise-wide learning and development plan that will ensure ASD employees have the right skills to perform ASD’s mission and ensure they maintain their tradecraft and intellectual edge into the future.

This role will also be responsible for developing and sustaining effective and collaborative relationships with management across ASD and external stakeholders such as Department of Defence, Australian Public Service Commission, and other Government entities.  Experience working within the National Intelligence Community is not required.

The successful applicant will also have the demonstrated ability to operate in accordance with, and actively promote ASD’s values and the Defence Leadership Behaviours, which will continue to be adopted and implemented within ASD. To be a strong contender, you will be self-aware, positive in considering and respecting a diversity of ideas and perspectives, and have the courage to challenge the status quo when it does not serve the required outcome. You will be innovative, consultative, resilient and personally accountable for the quality of advice and the delivery of results.

The remuneration package includes superannuation, an Executive Vehicle allowance and, where applicable, relocation expenses. The salary component for this position may be negotiated with the successful candidate.

Engagement may be negotiated on an ongoing basis or for a specified term. To be eligible for engagement, an applicant must be, or intend to become, a permanent Australian citizen. This is a security-designated position. The successful applicant will be required to undergo security assessments to the highest level and must be able to be cleared to Top Secret Positive Vetting.
