The Role
You will be part of a team leading the delivery of the department’s Graduate and Entry Level Programs. You will provide strategic and operational advice on matters that span the HR spectrum including program delivery, and have a strong stakeholder focus. The Assistant Director provides guidance and support to work areas and program participants, and builds partnerships outside the department.

The Assistant Director for Graduate and Entry Level Programs will:

  • Lead a team operating in a fast-paced work environment and deliver on competing priorities;
  • Lead and monitor the progress and effectiveness of program strategies and initiatives;
  • Develop and manage relationships with stakeholders across and outside the portfolio;
  • Review and evaluate the department’s graduate and entry level programs for continuous improvement;
  • Collaborate across the organisation to ensure that the department’s graduate and entry level programs are contemporary;
  • Manage and resolve issues affecting program participants and business areas in partnership with enabling areas; and
  • Prepare complex and/or sensitive correspondence, briefs and documentation.

About our Team
The Defence Graduate and Entry Level Programs Directorate shapes and delivers enterprise workforce capability. Through the Graduate and Entry Level Programs, Defence delivers a diverse and skilled talent pool to support critical and emerging workforce demands and strengthen our people capability. Working in partnership with the department, the Directorate provides services to its stakeholders, and pastoral care and learning and development opportunities to Graduates and Entry Level Programs candidates while they are in training.

In addition, the Directorate delivers the Whole of Government Indigenous Graduate Pathways for the Australian Public Service. Our operating environment is diverse, varied and high tempo. A high level of consultation is required to identify and address stakeholder and candidate needs.

This role is not currently offered in a remote capacity, and is located at premises at Brindebella Business Park, Canberra, ACT.
