Section Overview

The Learning and Development Services Section is responsible for the delivery of learning and delivery initiatives to assist in building non-vocational capabilities. This fast-paced environment thrives on the passion of its people to build an inclusive and capable workforce through the delivery and support of learning initiatives. Position Summary

The Learning Delivery Team facilitates a range of face-to-face interactive and engaging non-vocational training sessions (Management, Leadership, Human Resource Management, Change, Emotional Intelligence, and Core APS Skills) to Home Affairs and ABF staff throughout Australia.

Learning and Development Facilitators work with the Assistant Director of the Learning Delivery Team and stakeholders to develop a ‘National Non-Vocational Training Calendar’ that outlines a training schedule to meet the organisational requirements.  Senior EDS Facilitators deliver training in a variety of locations (including interstate at times).  In addition, to meet stakeholder requirements training may on occasion be delivered before or after standard business hours.

Specific Duties / Responsibilities:

A Learning and Development Facilitator is responsible for:

  • Engaging with stakeholders and the Assistant Director of the team to develop the National Non-Vocational Training Calendar;
  • Facilitate approximately three days of non-vocational training sessions per week
  • Management and administration of your allocated training sessions through the online ourPeople system
  • Working with peers to support each in the delivery of the scheduled sessions
  • Keeping up to date with session material and Departmental changes that could impact on training materials
  • Setup and pack down of training sessions including materials, attendance sheets, visual aids etc.
  • Facilitation of engaging, relevant and professional non-vocational internally endorsed training sessions
  • Reviewing feedback from sources and adapting facilitation style to meet the needs of audience
  • Answering email enquiries from stakeholders
  • Support the facilitation of virtual training
  • Assisting the broader Section and Branch with tasks as required.

Travel is required to deliver training in different locations in your allocated zone. Travel may also be required on an ongoing basis to different locations throughout Australia to deliver training.

The Learning and Development Facilitator position requires the below mandatory experience:

  • Designing and facilitating adult learning in a corporate learning environment in the area of non-vocational (Management, Leadership, Human Resource Management, Change, Emotional Intelligence, Core APS Skills etc);
  • Facilitating non-vocational sessions containing content that could be confronting for learners;
  • Knowledge of human resource management (performance management; recruitment, case management, recruitment, performance management etc);
  • Managing and leading staff;
  • Engaging and working with stakeholders to understand learning needs and developing solutions for non-vocational training;
  • Managing ongoing change; and
  • Dealing with challenging group interactions.

The qualifications, experience or attributes are highly desired for the position are:

  • Certificate IV / Diploma / Advance Diploma / Bachelor in area of Adult Learning, Leadership and Management,  Human Resource Management, and/or Training and Facilitation;
  • Minimum three years’ experience facilitating adult learning in a corporate learning environment in the area of non-vocational (Management, Leadership, Human Resource Management, Change, Emotional Intelligence, Core APS Skills etc); and
  • Minimum two years’ experience managing and leading staff.

 A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies either ongoing or non-ongoing within the next 12 months.

* Non-ongoing positions may be offered for an initial period of up to 12 months with the possibility of extension.
