Human Resources Manager - Heron Island Resort

An established resort with new owners, new investment and a vibrant new direction forward, Heron accommodates up to nearly 330 guests with the primary drawcard being located right on the Great Barrier Reef. There is a marine centre, activities centre, boutique, award-winning day spa, spacious lounge and bar overlooking the pool plus the expansive Shearwater Restaurant. Marine activities for guests and staff include world-class diving, snorkeling, kayaking and cruises. 

We are seeking applications for an experienced Human Resources Manager. Reporting directly to the General Manager key responsibilities of this standalone position include:

  • Accurately administrating & managing personnel documentation and employee files, to ensure compliance for over 100 employees across varying Awards
  • Coordinating recruitment & induction to meet Hotel departments requirements. This includes producing employment contracts, new starter paperwork
  • Managing the end to end recruitment process in conjunction with Department Heads and budget
  • Managing staff numbers through peak, shoulder and quiet periods in line with budget
  • Assisting the finance department with processing fortnightly payroll
  • Assisting the finance department with roster analysis, reporting same to managers
  • Co-ordinate all internal events eg: team communication forums, briefings, social events and team functions
  • Co-ordinate in conjunction with the Housekeeping Manager, all staff accommodation and allocations
  • Counseling of staff, be it formal or informal
  • Support and coach managers to assist with industrial relations and managing change
  • All administrative tasks related with HR processes
  • Involved with Wilson Island HR as required

Skill requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources
  • Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar Human Resources position
  • A thorough understanding of the key Hospitality Industry General Award (2010)
  • Previous experience in fast paced environment, remote/island experience a plus
  • True generalist skill-set
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Ability to partner with the business and think outside the traditional HR framework
  • Ability to connect with a wide range of staff of varying backgrounds

At Heron Island private self contained accommodation is offered. Staff meals are provided daily whilst ferry transfers between the mainland are at no cost.
