Work Health & Safety Coordinator

 

East Kimberley Job Pathways (“EKJP”) is a not-for-profit company created through a partnership of two well respected local Aboriginal organisations – Wunan Foundation Inc and KREAC Pty Ltd.  The organisation was established in 2013 to deliver the Federal Government’s Community Development Programme across the East Kimberley and Halls Creek/Tjurabalan Region.

Position Overview

The Work Health & Safety Coordinator (WHS Coordinator) holds an accountable role in the Corporate Services Team by maintaining and monitoring the health and safety of East Kimberley Job Pathways’ sites and daily activity.  This extends to a variety of assets management activities including (but not limited to) – data collection, condition inspection and assessment, risk assessments, electrical safety (test and tagging), and equipment pre-start and maintenance checks. 

In addition, the role will support supporting procurement of goods and stock control in relation to work for the dole Activities.   

The WHS Coordinator will be expected to contribute to meeting established performance indicators, thereby ensuring the sustainability of the organisation.  

Frequent travel to remote sites (including regular overnight stays) is a requirement of this position.  

This position is based in Kununurra.

Skills and experience:
In order to thrive in this position the following attributes are highly valued:

  • Demonstrated experience in Work Health and Safety including risk management
  • Solid knowledge of the OSH Act and Workers Compensation Act is beneficial   
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in contemporary asset management processes and systems
  • Good communication skills including negotiation, advocacy, and conflict resolution skills, and the ability to quickly create rapport 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to identify potential problems and take appropriate action 
  • Highly competent in Microsoft Office products with sound report writing 
  • Previous experience in using a portable appliance tester and testing electrical equipment 
  • Machinery tickets, with a particular emphasis on forklift 
  • Current manual driver’s license (essential) with a preference for HR license.

Desirable

  • Certification to undertake Electrical Test and Tag
  • Qualification/Certification in Workplace Health and Safety
