The Opportunity

Reporting to the Head of HSEQ you will work with the business to understand the health and safety risk of the operation and assist in implementing programs to minimise these risks and inspire positive change. This role pro-actively partners with line managers and employees across a diverse range, to enable solutions and build organisational capability.  This role will also oversee the management of the GeelongPort’s Quality Systems.

Key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure organisational compliance with all applicable OHS obligations and GeelongPort policies and procedures through audits, inspections and safety engagements.
  • Support the development, implementation and review of safety policies, procedures and programs.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives in support of OHS
  • Participate in safety committee meetings, departmental toolbox meetings and planning meetings as required.
  • Coordinate procedural updates to maintain company documentation as per ISO requirements
  • Maintain legal and other related registers to ISO requirements
  • Coordinate audits with functional leaders and external auditors as required
  • Facilitate change management activity
  • Assist with the management of GeelongPort Noggin Incident Management System.
  • Participation in emergency management planning and preparedness
  • Monitor, maintain and report on contractor safety and
  • Assist with contractor safety inductions and Authority to Commence Work processes.
  • Ensure safety improvement opportunities identified are implemented, reviewed, and closed out within the allocated timeframe.
  • Development and implementation of safety related training
  • Support wellbeing
  • Coaching and influencing leaders to maintain compliance whilst leading their team members to interdependent behaviours and a sustainable HSW culture.

About You

Ideally, you will hold a Cert 4 or above in Work, Health and Safety, have proven quality and auditing experience and have had worked in the port, logistics or similar environment. You will require influencing, coaching and mentoring skills and demonstrate an ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels. 

You will have exceptional communication skills and must be able to lead, guide and influence teams to deliver change.

Other key skills and experience will include:

  • Demonstrated experience in delivering and supporting health, safety and wellbeing systems and programs.
  • Management of Quality Systems.
  • Strong business acumen along with highly developed organisational skills and a proven ability to multitask, prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Organisational change management.
  • Growth mindset.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop relationships, trust and rapport with a range of stakeholders at all levels.
