Impairment Advisor

 

  • $130,042 per annum + superannuation
  • Full time, Ongoing
  • Melbourne based (hybrid working model – 3 days in the office)

About the role

Working within the External Affairs division, this role provides services to support Medical Panels to ensure they are fulfilling their legislative function. Utilising your technical expertise and knowledge you will review Medical Panels Opinions & Reasons, with a focus on achieving quality opinions within the designated timelines.

Key accountabilities:

  • In cooperation with the Legal Manager and Senior Impairment Advisor, ensure that Medical Panels fulfil their legislative function in respect to the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013 and the Wrongs Act 1958.
  • Work collaboratively with the Legal Manager, Directors of Medical Panels as well as Medical Panel staff to achieve quality opinions and outcomes within designated timelines.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with the key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Advise individual Medical Panels and provide advice as requested by the Legal Manager.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of information, advice and training to Panellists and the Convenor’s Officers.
  • Adhere to all WorkSafe policies and procedures and any legislative requirements relevant to this position
  • Any other reasonable and related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of Medical Panels.

About you

You are a professional who enjoys delivering high-level support for individuals and panels alike. Your written and verbal communication is excellent and you have high-level interpersonal skills with an ability to quickly build rapport with others.  Furthermore, you will also possess:

  • High levels of attention to detail, excellent time management and the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders with varying degrees of seniority.
  • A strong technical knowledge of AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment (4th Edition)
  • A sound knowledge of Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013 as it relates to Medical Panels, medical questions and dispute resolution involving referrals to Medical Panels
  • A sound knowledge of medical terminology and standard medical procedures and practices

Qualifications:

  • You will have tertiary qualifications and/or significant equivalent experience in a similar role.
  • You will possess a high level of knowledge and expertise in the systems and regulations governing the function or specialty field and be able to apply knowledge of research and analysis techniques.
