The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists for an OHS Advisor to join the Occupational Health and Safety team at Burnet!

In this role you will assist the Head, OHS and Compliance to establish, monitor and evaluate systems of assurance i.e., compliance reporting and monitoring; covering rules, regulations, laws, and other requirements to which Burnet is subject.

Some of your duties will include:

• Providing support to strengthen the institutes understanding and commitment to compliance
• Providing specialist and impartial advice to staff and students to encourage a shared understanding of the principles of a positive ‘no blaming’ workplace culture that operates within a continuous improvement cycle
• Facilitating an OHS risk management approach at Burnet
• Compliance reporting and monitoring of mandatory training
• Monitoring progress towards objectives and targets by the measurement of compliance performance indicators across Burnet
• Assessing and reporting on complaint, incident, and breach investigations to ensure adequacy & objectivity
• Contributing to HSCs by raising OHS matters, and assisting the HSC to formulate and review policies and procedures

Let’s talk about you

The following criteria are essential requirements:

• Diploma in OHS including familiarity with ISO 45001
• CERT IV in Training and Assessment
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in risk management & compliance, in conducting audits and ensuring identified actions are implemented
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written & verbal
• Demonstrated developed stakeholder management and interpersonal skills including communication, consultation, negotiation, and facilitation
• Influencing and negotiation skills and the ability to present a strong case to gain support for initiatives
• Highly developed planning and organisational skills, and the ability to prioritise activities and work within timeframes to meet deadlines
• Conceptual and analytical skills and the ability to resolve issues to achieve agreed outcomes and identify and advise on issues and improvements

Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ACFID Code of Conduct is also preferable but not essential.
