Introduction
Defence People Group delivers high quality human resource outcomes for the Department of Defence and is seeking exceptional senior executives to fill three positions at the SES Band 1 level.
As part of the Senior Leadership Group, you will play a key role in promoting and influencing a shared commitment to the strategic direction of Defence. You will:
- Lead and manage a Branch practicing inclusive leadership and collaboration;
- Demonstrate strong judgement and capitalise on innovative alternatives to resolve complex problems;
- Effectively challenge the status quo when required;
- Demonstrate resilience and personal accountability for the quality of advice and delivery of results through engaging, collaborating and partnering; and
- Demonstrate exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.

Positions Available:
Position 1 – Assistant Secretary HR Transformation
Security Level: Negative Vetting 2
Division: People Services
Defence has a significant HR transformation agenda to be delivered in coming years. The Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system will replace a number of information systems and require change to many processes. Through HR transformation, Defence’s HR operating model will be modernised to better support organisational outcomes.
In this key role you will provide leadership to the HR Transformation Branch, lead reform of the HR operating model across the organisation, manage a broad program of activities, and manage a large budget and resources to deliver agreed outcomes. You will also work closely with the ERP program and a broad group of stakeholders to deliver effective change management and ensure HR business readiness for ERP.
Position 2 – Assistant Secretary Learning

The Assistant Secretary Learning is committed to meeting the needs of the modern Defence APS learner through the provision of high impact, high employee value, digital-based learning tools and experiences. The Branch aspires to create a strong learning culture in Defence with the provision of high quality learning experiences and solutions across the Defence APS.
The Branch has a number of priority deliverables as part of the Defence Transformation Strategy including delivery of the Learning Experience Platform pilot and continued roll out of our Enterprise leadership program, Journey: Leading for Transformation. The role also plays a critical role in bringing together the different parts of learning from across Defence to enable whole of enterprise solutions.
Position 3 – Director General Defence Member and Family Support

Division: People Capability
Defence Member and Family Support (DMFS) works with Defence members, families and community organisations to develop and implement programs and services of value that reinforce the Australian Defence Force (ADF) appreciation for, and commitment to, military families and delivers services to members of the ADF as they transition from military service. As Director General Defence Member and Family Support, you will lead DMFS on behalf of Navy, Army and Air Force and manage a geographically dispersed and integrated civilian and military workforce of approximately 250 staff located at 36 sites around Australia.
You will contribute to Defence reform programs and oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of ADF family support policy and transition initiatives and program activities. You will lead DMFS in offering a broad range of programs and services to help Defence families make the most of the challenges and opportunities provided by the military way of life, through providing professional support services to ADF members and families, managing a 24-hour support helpline, providing career transition support services to outgoing ADF members and support services to commanding and supervising officers.
