The number of Victorians in training has increased 31 per cent over the last year, with almost 680,000 students reenrolled in training positions.

State Skills Minister Peter Hall released the Victorian Training Market Quarterly Report Q3 2012, which he said shows significant enrolment growth and more training taking place in key skills shortages.

“Enrolments in specialist occupations and in industries experiencing skills shortage grew by 19 per cent in the first three quarters of this year, an increase of around 37,500 enrolments compared with the same period last year,” Mr Hall said.

Mr Hall said enrolments slowed in courses with less vocational benefit or in labour market oversupply such as fitness, hospitality and retail between Q2 and Q3 this year.

“This report shows our refocus of the vocational education sector is helping meet the demand for skilled workers in our economy, now and in the future.

“A National Centre for Vocational Education Research report released earlier this month confirmed that Victoria provided a third of all state and territory investment in training delivery and support in 2011 and provides a million more subsidised enrolments in vocational education than any other state,” Mr Hall said.
