Lead key research projects to shape advice to inform current & future regulatory strategies for Qld Govt's Office of Industrial Relations!


An exciting permanent opportunity to apply your research governance and program administration skills to influence the future WHS prevention strategies of a leading Queensland Regulator! We're looking for an experienced officer with skills in research, governance, project management, stakeholder engagement and program management and administration, to lead key projects and shape advice for our research strategy and program.

The role involves providing research expertise and advice to internal and external stakeholders, developing research governance and project management frameworks including ethics, and leading research advocacy and engagement, collaborations and capability development strategies.

The Principal Advisor will assist the Manager - Regulatory Research and Assurance Strategies by leading implementation OIR's research program and using research processes and outcomes to shape advice to our executive to inform the current and future regulatory direction of OIR's four Regulators: Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, Electrical Safety Office, Industrial Relations, and Workers' Compensation Regulatory Services.

This permanent role involves projects and liaison with internal and external stakeholders to provide research expertise and advice, identify knowledge gaps and research priorities, support and facilitate engagement in high quality research, support OIR's regulatory approach, and facilitate OIR's Research Committee.

The Principal Advisor will:

  • Plan, develop, implement and evaluate multi-faceted strategies to support research partnerships with academic and other research organisations. This includes facilitating engagement of research projects and contract processes associated with these projects.
  • Lead and manage relationships within OIR, and between OIR, peak industry stakeholders, research organisations and other partners to ensure effective consultation and collaboration about research initiatives, including facilitation of OIR's Research Committee.
  • Liaise with and influence other Government Departments, health, safety and electrical regulators and research organisations, intrastate, interstate and international, on priority research related matters and represent OIR at external forums.
  • Develop and provide support and learning opportunities for OIR staff for basic and advanced research understanding and methods, to increased OIR's internal research capability, and capability to assess and engage with research and research results conducted externally or in partnership.
  • Conduct high level research, analysis and reporting on health, safety and electrical issues which informs the development and implementation of high-level strategies, priority industry and hazard plans and emerging issues.
  • Prepare complex research reports, correspondence, high-level briefings, submissions, memorandums and briefing notes to provide high level advice and support for the Minister, Deputy Director-General and OIR senior executive as required.
  • Actively participate as an effective team member in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, WHS and ethical behaviour.
