Job description:


As an organisation, the AFL works tirelessly in all states and at all levels to enhance and grow the game – from grassroots to elite. Together, we put on the game, deliver important events, communicate with our fans, run community programs, develop coaches and umpires, and collaborate with partners, delight members, support clubs and so much more. While our roles may vary we are all united by a common goal, to progress the game so that everyone can share in its heritage and possibilities.


The People Business Partner acts as a strategic partner to our Finance, Clubs and Broadcasting team,  Heads of State for VIC/TAS as well as leads the design and execution of our strategic people plan for Marvel Stadium. With no 2 days the same and working in a high pace and agile environment, you will build great relationships with leadership teams to provide strategic and practical HR solutions that will result in sustainable business results and growth of the AFL.


  • Coach and influence leaders at all levels of the organization on HR and people related matters including performance management and IR issues.
  • Partner leaders through design & implementation of organizational change
  • Design and implement people and culture programs across key stakeholders (leadership & capability programs, performance cycle processes, workforce planning, talent management etc)
  • Analyze employee engagement survey results and support business action planning
  • Take a strong diversity and EEO lens to partner with client groups and drive quality outcomes for talent and succession across teams


  • Tertiary qualification in Human Resources or related discipline
  • Significant experience in multiple HR functions and or a HR generalist role in medium to large organization 
  • Experience designing and implementing HR programs within a medium size business
  • Extensive experience in building and maintaining relationships with a diverse set of organizational groups with conflicting stakeholder requirements
  • Solid knowledge of the industrial relations landscape
  • Experience in designing and planning for a large casual based workforce
