A health workers’ union has been revealed as the recipient of data from a serious breach at Canberra Health Services (CHS).

The Australian Nursing Midwifery Federation (ANMF) reportedly received patient records sent by staff at CHS.

The records of 13 patients were sent to the ANMF branch in what CHS CEO Dave Peffer called a “serious breach”.

Mental Health Minister Emma Davidson says that one staff member had been fired, while two others were suspended, pending an investigation.

Davidson said she had not revealed the identity of the recipient until patients were informed.

The ANMF’s own Information Privacy Policy permits staff to disclose patient information in certain circumstances.
