Reporting to the Head of Quality, Safety, Health and Environment, the primary purpose of this role is to provide strategic and operational management for occupational health and safety.  This involves responsibility for the Occupational Health and Safety Management System including incident investigation and support, coaching line managers, reporting and rehabilitation.  This role will ensure that Activ meets its legal obligations in relation to Occupational Safety and Health, Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation.

Key duties include:

  • Providing advice to the Senior Leadership Team and Managers in relation to Health and Safety matters, practices and administration
  • Establishing and maintaining a framework for the development of annual health & safety objectives and targets
  • Partnering with business units and departments to set and meet health and safety objectives, provide legislative advice/guidance and educate all staff and employees on OH&S and workers compensation responsibilities, preventative and rehabilitative strategies, compliance and Activ health and safety policies and procedures
  • Maintaining full awareness and remaining informed on the current business issues, projects and processes, legislative developments and industry trends to ensure compliance and consultation requirements are met
  • Establishing, implementing and reviewing systems to ensure legislative/regulatory compliance and continuous performance improvement
  • Providing advice and service to all sites regarding legislative compliance, the implementation of safety management systems and the management of work related injuries.

What you need?

  • Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or a related discipline
  • A minimum of seven (7) years’ experience working in Occupational Health and Safety
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience as an Occupational, Health and Safety Manager within a medium (>500 employees) organisation
  • Experience working in complex environments/organisations and managing complex projects with a focus on meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare reports and analyse statistical data
